Inspired by the traditional boma huts built by the Maasai tribe, The Highlands offers a unique perspective on the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Located on a secluded spot on the slopes of the Olmoti volcano, the circular domed canvas suites boast floor-to-ceiling bay windows from which to take in the spectacular views of the wilderness and dramatic landscapes, stretching as far as the Serengeti. Contemporary in design, the camp has been created to have minimum impact on the environment, with its power sourced from generator and solar energy. Designed to give guests an authentic East African campfire experience, an indoor fireplace lies at the centre of the camp, while a cosy library and extensive bar are perfect for unwinding after a day of safari.
Beyond its glorious domes, the area around The Highlands is ideal for hiking; ultra-scenic treks to the top of Olmoti volcano and to the crater floor of Empakaai can be arranged. Full-day safaris take you into the Ngorongoro Crater, where gourmet picnics can be enjoyed in glorious surroundings, before you head off in search of some of Africa’s incredible wildlife. Back at camp, the wonderful chefs will create hearty gourmet meals using locally sourced, organic ingredients.
