Day 1 to 4Welcome to Porto

Spend some time indulging in Portugal’s world-renowned wine region before your river cruise with a three-night stay at The Yeatman. Day 5Régua, Pinhão

Your cruise begins with Porto’s storied history in winemaking. A visit to the Douro Museum tells the secrets of the oldest demarcated wine-growing district in Europe, whilst tastings and vineyard hikes allow you to delve even further. This evening, you will be treated to a special Captain’s Welcome Reception and Dinner.

Day 6Castelo Rodrigo, Côa Valley

Discover more about the history of this incredible region with a choice of two excursions. Walk amongst the ancient stone walls of Castelo Rodrigo – now ruins atop Marofa Mountain, that show Portugal’s struggle for independence. Or hike the archaeological park of Côa Valley and you will be rewarded with an astonishing collection of prehistoric carvings which your knowledgeable guide will share the history of.

Day 7Salamanca

Though a hidden gem, Salamanca is a cultural hub of Spain. Its churches are centuries old, its historical centre has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its university is among the oldest in Europe. A guided walking tour will take you to the key spots here, though be sure to notice the unique golden hue of the buildings as you pass.

Day 8Lamego

Lamego sits right at the gateway of the Douro Valley. A walking tour of the town highlights its heritage and its importance to the area’s production of sparkling wines and cold cuts which you will be given a tasting of. This evening, you will enjoy local flavours as you are hosted at a local quinta.

Day 9Braga

Braga is the oldest town in Portugal, with 2,000 years of history among its plazas, churches, museums and palace. A walking tour of the city unveils all this, plus its more modern side with contemporary landmarks and an energetic atmosphere.

Day 10Porto

As you arrive back in Porto, you can choose to explore the city either on foot or via panoramic drive. Your excursion choices afford the opportunity to get closer to local life on a walking tour; or see scenic spots like the colourful townhouses, the 19th-century Stock Exchange Palace and the mouth of the Douro.
