Highlights
Mount Teide National Park
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a true “must-see” in Tenerife. The third tallest volcano in the world and the highest peak in Spain, Mount Teide’s peak measures a staggering 3718m. The National Park is a geological gem and gateway to incredible hiking terrain, boasting miles of trails with extraordinary rocky boulders and unique flora. For a real challenge (and breathtaking views), take the five-hour climb to the top of Mount Teide, or, for a less strenuous route, take the scenic cable car ride. The park is stunning whatever the time of year but especially so in early spring, when the lower slopes blossom with colourful plant-life and the summit is draped in snow.
Puerto de la Cruz
The star of northern Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz offers beaches, boardwalks, restaurants and bakeries laden with German-style goodies. Mooch around the Old Town’s cobbled streets, before bagging a table by the harbour for a fresh fish lunch and exquisite wine. Watch animal antics at Loro Parque, cool off at the Lago Martianez open-air swimming pool or admire exotic flowers at Jardin Botanico. Just on Puerto de la Cruz’s doorstep, explore the fruit plantations of the lush Oratava Valley and the aristocratic town of La Oratava, where beautiful churches, renaissance mansions, pretty gardens and exclusive shops await.
Beaches & Watersports
In Costa Adeje, the golden-sand beaches take centre stage during the day, washed by warm, clear waters and scattered with plush sun-loungers for your comfort. As you might expect, water activities prove popular and there is a huge variety to choose from - windsurfing, jet-skiing and whale-watching boat trips are just a few aquatic highlights. Meanwhile, located on the west of the island, the secluded enclave of Guia de Isora offers a stunning unspoilt coastline. Due to the rougher waters around this area, surfing and kite-surfing are particularly good here. Home to an underwater kingdom of colourful marine life, explore beneath the ocean’s surface with snorkelling or scuba-diving.
Family
The perfect destination for your next family getaway, Tenerife has plenty to keep its younger guests entertained. Costa Adeje is home to two fabulous waterparks: Siam Park boasts a lush Thai theme throughout, offering thrilling slides and rushing rapids. Part of the park, “The Lost City”, houses multiple towers, bridges, nets, cascades and tamer water slides, perfect for even the smallest visitors. Aqualand, the area’s second park, is home to twisting slides, tube rides and the fun-filled “Kidzworld”. Meanwhile, Loro Park in Puerto de la Cruz is a glorious zoo and theme-park, home to an array of animals (including Killer Whales and Pandas) alongside fascinating exhibitions.
