Luxury Holidays At Kings Pool Camp

This luxurious camp, overlooking Kings Pool Lagoon and the Linyanti River, is renowned for its enormous herds of elephants during the winter months, while the Linyanti Concession it is situated in offers outstanding scenery, diverse habitats and a prolific amount of wildlife - raised walkways allow the animals to wander freely around the camp. Kings Pool Camp has the ambience and decor that evokes a bygone era and boasts lounge, dining room and bar areas that are set on expansive raised decks (there is also an open-air 'kgolta' for dining under the stars), while the guest accommodation is equally Colonial in style and comprises nine well-appointed Luxury Tents constructed of canvas and thatch, each one boasting a plunge pool and sala surrounded by a spacious private deck.

Guests of the camp have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities that allow for exploration of the surrounding landscape, including seasonal catch-and-release fishing, day and night game-drives and walks, as well as seasonal barge cruises along the Linyanti River on board the Colonial-style Queen Sylvia, offering spectacular viewing - water levels permitting. The camp has two hides, including one that is located practically underground, giving a fabulous, up-close perspective of the resident elephants and allowing for great photographic opportunities.

Safari

Most of the area around Kings Pool Camp is characterised by open grassland, riverine forest, mixed terminalia and mopane savannahs. The area is most noted for its very large elephant populations, which can reach enormous densities in the winter months, but impalas, lechwes, kudus, zebras, giraffes, sitatungas, sables, roans, waterbuck, buffalo, bushbucks and smaller antelope are all found here. Major predators - such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs and hyenas - are resident at the camp and are regularly sighted.

Wildlife Encounters

The reed and papyrus swamps are ideal for numerous diverse species of birds, ranging from the Fish Eagle to waterfowl, stilts, storks, plovers and herons. One of the camp's highlights is the sounds of the wildlife: very few camps in Africa are noisier! The pre-dawn chorus of birdsong starts off the morning, hippos grunt and snort all day, baboons bark and screech, elephants wander through camp and trumpet their arrival, while lions can often be heard roaring in the camp at night!

Climate

The Linyanti Wildlife Reserve can be visited year-round. From February to April, there is the opportunity to see the zebra migration. The most popular time for wildlife viewing is during the dry season from May to October when the seasonal floods also allow water-based game-viewing.

Getting There

Your Luxury Travel Specialist will advise the best travel arrangements according to your bespoke itinerary.

Game Drives and Wildlife

Join expert rangers as you explore the reserve’s grassland, marshes and woodland on game drives, likely spotting the huge density of elephants that reside here, along with many other game species – including lion, leopard, giraffe, buffalo, cheetah, zebra and more. Large concentrations of wild dog can also be found in the reserve, with July and August an especially great time to spot them as young pups often emerge from their dens.
