Hotel Experiences at Elewana Kifaru House

Safari

The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is home to approximately 10% of Kenya's black rhino population and about 15% of Kenya’s white rhino population, as well as the largest single population of critically endangered Grevy’s zebra. Joined by elephants and the Big 5, the opportunities for fantastic wildlife encounters in this area are endless. Head out on exciting 4x4 game drives and walking safaris - experiences that are sure to make memories to last a lifetime.

Luxury Family Holidays

A family cottage with two bedrooms is ideal for families, and young travellers can enjoy activities especially designed with them in mind - guided 'bush' walks around the lodge grounds give little people a taste for the flora and fauna of the area and a visit to the Conservancy HQ is sure to spark their interest in animal conservation. Watching the local wildlife around the waterhole is something they'll be talking about for years to come, and the heated swimming pool is always popular for some splashtastic downtime! The lodge's kitchen team can design a children's menu to keep small tummies nice and full.

Overview

Overview

Five charming cottages boast authentic African design, with rounded architecture and thatched roofs housing bedrooms with king-size four-poster beds and deluxe en suite bathrooms with twin vanity and a shower. A two-bedroom cottage is perfect for families, with one double and one twin room, whilst the other four cottages all have individual bedrooms. A unique outside bathroom with Victorian-style bath and outside shower enclosed by natural reed thatching for privacy is an additional luxury in one of the cottages, and all the accommodation looks out onto carefully tended lawns, lush vegetation and across the vast, savannah plains that stretch out below.

Overview

Overview

Start the day with a hearty à la carte breakfast, enjoyed al fresco on the terrace outside the dining room while watching wildlife at the waterhole below. Choose from a buffet or picnic lunch dependent on your plans for the day, then later settle down for a delicious set menu dinner, served communally at a large wooden dining table beneath the domed thatch of the impressive dining room. Chat with the small number of fellow lodge guests about their adventures that day and gaze out of the large picture windows as you savour fresh, flavoursome food.

Climate

Within the conservancy the climate is mild, with warm days and cooler nights. As it's close to the equator, there is not much variation in the weather, however warm clothing is needed for mornings and evenings. During the wet season, there are lots of cloudy days, but it isn't wet all day.

Getting There

Fly from London Heathrow to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi (eight hours 35 minutes), followed by a 30 minute drive to Wilson Domestic Airport. From here, there are one hour flights to the Lewa Airstrip with Air Kenya.

Wildlife

With a rich diversity of wildlife in Lewa, the game drives are truly an unrivalled experience. Over 70 species of mammal are found within the conservancy, including lion, leopard, rhino and elephant, buffalo, hyena and antelope. The morning and afternoon game drives offer the opportunity to observe these in the day, whilst evening game drives open another world within the conservancy, of predators and interesting nocturnal creatures.

Wildlife
Conservation Work

Leading the world in conservation, the number of black rhinos in Lewa has grown from 15 at its establishment to well over 150 - an incredible achievement thanks to the important work here. As well as phenomenal wildlife encounters, you can directly contribute to the conservation and support the local communities, with a wealth of ‘behind the scenes’ activities that include tracking dog demonstrations, local school visits and visiting the Samburu community. A visit to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy supports the important work it does, all while offering an unforgettable luxury safari experience.
