With exclusive access to the eastern half of the conservancy, get set to enjoy the incredible game viewing experience in state-of-the-art open game drive vehicles. The game driving here is unrivalled, with plentiful rhino, elephant, Grevy zebra and buffalo. The walking guides are expert rangers, who offer rambles from the camp to experience the botany, tracking and fascinating micro-ecosystems of Lewa. Day trips to Ngare Ndare Forest Conservancy to the south of Lewa offer the chance to experience a different aspect of safari, with elephants often in the forest and an exciting canopy walk, surrounded by lush trees and wildlife.

The activities at Lewa are perfect for delving into the bush experience, with evening camel or horse riding in the plains allowing the chance to get close to the game. Massages are offered onsite, ideal to relax after an exciting day of game driving. Bordering the Samburu community conservancies of Tassia and II Ngwesi, Lewa offers visits to the local homesteads, where the hospitable families show you into their Manyattas and sell traditional handicrafts. Meanwhile, a visit to the conservancy headquarters offers an insight into the important conservation work of Lewa, allowing you to meet the tracker dogs and participate in the conservation work.

Nestled amongst trees, each of the spacious canvas tents feel very private. Set on large raised decks and covered by thatched roofs, each tent features an en-suite bathroom with hot water shower, and private a veranda overlooking the beautiful Lewa plains. Some of the tents can fit an extra bed in to accommodate a child on request. Bathrobes and towels are provided, as well as luxury bathroom amenities.

Climate

Within the conservancy the climate is mild, with warm days and cooler nights. As it's close to the equator, there is not much variation in the weather, however warm clothing is needed for mornings and evenings. During the wet season, there are lots of cloudy days, but it isn't wet all day.

Getting There

Fly from London Heathrow to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi (eight hours 35 minutes), followed by a 30 minute drive to Wilson Domestic Airport. From here, there are one hour flights to the Lewa Airstrip with Air Kenya.

Wildlife

With a rich diversity of wildlife in Lewa, the game drives are truly an unrivalled experience. Over 70 species of mammal are found within the conservancy, including lion, leopard, rhino and elephant, buffalo, hyena and antelope. The morning and afternoon game drives offer the opportunity to observe these in the day, whilst evening game drives open another world within the conservancy, of predators and interesting nocturnal creatures.

Leading the world in conservation, the number of black rhinos in Lewa has grown from 15 at its establishment to well over 150 - an incredible achievement thanks to the important work here. As well as phenomenal wildlife encounters, you can directly contribute to the conservation and support the local communities, with a wealth of ‘behind the scenes’ activities that include tracking dog demonstrations, local school visits and visiting the Samburu community.
