Flowing with the land's natural contours over dunes and beside the Atlantic's Moroccan shore, Mazagan Golf Course was designed by Gary Player, a man with a huge reputation for knowing what works best for this ever-popular sport. The layout is a par 72, 18-hole links course, featuring broad fairways and immaculate greens that will challenge single-digit and high-digit handicappers alike, eager to test their swing. This is the country's longest course (at 7,484 yards), making a coaching session at the golf academy a hit for improving play. Following an exciting round, the attractive Club House awaits, styled like an opulent citadel.

Expect non-stop fun and action on Mazagan's seven-kilometre-long sandy beach, wedged between the dunes and Atlantic Ocean. Catch the rays on comfortable sunbeds, parasols angled to shade when the midday heat gets too much. Alternatively, you can pay a small supplement and reserve a private cabana. Dust off the sand and wade into the water to ride a wave, either surfing or bodyboarding, and feel the wind in your hair and race across the sea on a jet-ski. Back on solid ground, beach volleyball tournaments are scheduled every morning and afternoon, as well as beach soccer at 5pm. Rather more adventurous and for the more free-spirited, head to the beach club and rent a quad-bike or beach buggy.

This extravagant building was completed in 1993 after great expense and artistic labour, and the result is one of the largest and most spectacular mosques in the world. The style of this beautiful building exhibits the best of Moroccan artisanship; its carved wood, stone structures and intricate marble floors are a feast for the eyes. Another impressive feature is the glass floor in the basement, revealing the Atlantic Ocean breaking against the rocks beneath the building.
