Luxury Holidays At Arusha Coffee Lodge by Elewana

Located on the outskirts of Arusha in one of Tanzania’s largest coffee estates, Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge is perfect for an overnight stay before or after your Tanzanian safari. What's more, just an easy drive to the striking Kilimanjaro National Park, you could begin to explore the relatively accessible rainforest hiking trails around the base of the eponymous mountain.

The charming Plantation House, which dates back to the 1900s, is where you'll find the wonderful restaurant and café bistro, although you may prefer to dine in the beautiful gardens, where the aroma of coffee is never far away. Learn the fascinating processes behind making the perfect coffee blend with a tour of the estate, take a dip in the secluded swimming pool, or visit the local artisans with a stroll through Traders Walk, the adjacent bazaar.

Hotel Experiences

Making the most of its fascinating location on a working coffee estate, the lodge offers a guided tour of the plantation. Learn how the beans are grown, harvested, roasted and blended to make the perfect morning cappuccino. Meanwhile, adjacent to the hotel is Traders Walk, a community-based experience project that houses shops, dining facilities and a workshop where you can see how recycled goods are used to create colourful works of art. We love the bead work created at Shanga (Swahili for bead).

Romance

For couples seeking a romantic escape, we'd suggest a stay in one of the beautiful Plantation Suites. Hidden amongst the coffee trees, each suite has a private terrace and rain shower. On cooler evenings, there is also a cosy fire place to snuggle up around.

Climate

The huge size of Tanzania results in a varied climate across the country. Coastal areas are generally hot and humid, while the northwestern highlands often feel much cooler. Tanzania experiences two rainy seasons; the long rains from March to June, and the short rains from October to December. The central plateau however, home to the desert, is dry and arid year-round.

Culture

Tanzanian people are known for their delightful cultures, their distinctive warmth and good manners, making every visit truly memorable. If you get the chance, meet the Chagga tribe of Kilimanjaro and the charming, semi-nomadic Maasai warriors, adorned with colourful, beaded jewellery and vibrant red cloaks. Enjoy their hospitality, tour local villages and watch the wonderful rhythms of tribal dance. Meeting local people promises a fascinating insight into this magnificent land.

Culture
Mount Kilimanjaro

The planet’s tallest, freestanding volcano and Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro arises from Tanzania’s northern plains and dominates the landscape for miles around. Climbers flock here to test their stamina on its rocky trails and muddy slopes, keen to reach its stunning, snow-capped summit and soak up the jaw-dropping views across Kilimanjaro’s ice fields. If you happen to catch sunrise, expect to be blown away by the magical show of nature from this legendary African landmark.

Mount Kilimanjaro
Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti National Park is home to one of nature’s greatest wildlife spectaculars; the great migration. In pursuit of fresh shoots following the rains, over two-million wildebeest and vast herds of zebra, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle graze the vast open plains of the Serengeti, forming the longest overland migration in the world. The Serengeti is one of the best places to see cheetahs on the chase and large prides of lion.

Serengeti National Park
Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area

Dominated by one of the world’s largest volcanic calderas, the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to a wealth of wildlife. It’s a great introduction for a Tanzanian safari, with black rhino, elephant, zebra, lion, leopard and cheetah roaming the crater floor. The bird life is prolific too, with 500 species recorded in the area. Luxury camps and lodges perch on the top of the forested crater walls, offering panoramic views of the dramatic landscape.
