Nevada’s summers, from June to September, see lots of sunshine and soaring temperatures, peaking in July as they reach 35⁰C. Annual rainfall is relatively low around the lake, but the most precipitation is seen between November and March. Winter snow showers are also frequent, with harsh morning frosts and icy conditions at night. April brings the great thaw, during which daytime temperatures gradually climb to a pleasant 20⁰C, though nights remain very cold.

Alternatively, visit Tallac Historic Site, resting on the excavated grounds of an old holiday retreat, once flocked to by San Francisco’s high society at the turn of the 20th century. Today, you will find a charming community arts centre and small museum. Nearby, discover the Pope Estate, offering more glorious art and guided tours, whilst the Lake Tahoe Historical Society Museum exhibits interesting artefacts from the area’s pioneering past.
