Luxury Holidays At &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

The award-winning &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge perches on the edge of the dramatic Ngorongoro Crater Rim. The lodge's 30 Masai-inspired, stilted suites are spread across three camps. Inside, the décor is an eclectic mix of opulent chandeliers, Persian rugs and gilt-edged mirrors. Despite these luxurious interiors, nothing can distract from the incredible views available from each suite; sweeping vistas cascade into the wildlife-filled crater below, which can be explored on daily safaris. &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge offers daily game drives into the crater, walks around the grounds of the property and excursions to Emakaai Crater and Olduvai Gorge.

Each of the three camps has its own dining and lounge area, while a team of butlers are on hand to attend to your every need. If you fancy a stretch in the morning, there is a ‘gym in a basket’ in your room, perfect for taking in the views of the crater as you exercise. In-room massages can also be arranged. Other amenities include a safari shop, wine cellar and complimentary laundry.

Safari

The crater is home to up to thirty-thousand wild animals at any one time, making it the most densely packed concentration of wildlife in Africa. Embark on unforgettable daily safari drives into the crater, where vehicles are strictly limited to preserve this unique environment. Nearby, you can visit the ancient sands of Olduvai Gorge, often called the 'Cradle of Mankind', or enjoy bird-watching and guided walks with a naturalist within the camp. Expect to see lions, elephant, rhino, zebra, hippos, giraffe, warthogs and hyenas as you journey across the crater floor, while the soda lakes, natural springs and swamps attract many bird species - including flamingo.

Hotel Experiences

After working up an appetite on your morning safari, enjoy a delicious lunch banquet on the crater floor. Crisp white linen table cloths and silver cutlery complement the mouth-watering dishes served by butlers.

Luxury Family Holidays

Children of all ages are welcome at the lodge, with a dedicated family room featuring interleading suites. However, children aged five years old and under are not allowed on game-drives and children aged six to eleven years old are only allowed at the discretion of the Lodge Manager. Combining learning with plenty of fun, &Beyond hosts a dedicated WILDChild programme, where children are given a backpack and a scrapbook to record their observations as they embark on a series of enriching activities with their guide. Babysitting is available on request and at an additional cost.

Ngorongoro Crater

The volcanic peaks and deep calderas of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area provide a dramatic landscape, the central feature of which, of course, is the Ngorongoro Crater. Formed some three million years ago by a collapsed volcano, the crater is 610 metres deep and spreads over 260 square kilometres. The forested slopes of the crater form a striking natural bowl.

Ngorongoro Crater
Olduvai Gorge

It was at Olduvai Gorge that Mary Leakey unearthed the remains of a hominoid, believed to date back 1.8 million years. Further excavations have led to the discovery of footprints over 3.7 million years old. This fascinating part of Tanzania is still actively explored by anthropologists and archaeologists, and can easily be visited from the Ngorongoro Crater Area.

Olduvai Gorge
Wildlife

The rich eco-systems of the Ngorongoro Crater attract a profusion of wildlife.  As you descend the walls of the crater and traverse the crater floor on your safari, you may be fortunate enough to see lion, cheetah, black and white rhinoceros, elephant, warthog and zebra.  One of the natural features of the Ngorongoro crater is its soda lakes and natural springs that attract many bird species - including flamingo.

Wildlife
Walking Trails

One of the best ways to appreciate the dramatic landscapes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is on foot.  An ancient Maasai cattle trail leads you through the forests to ascend the Olmoti Volcano. Alternatively, you can explore the soda lake of the Empakaai Crater which attracts pink flamingos.
