Overview

Travel through Australia's Red Centre in style on one of the world's most renowned rail journeys onboard luxury train, The Ghan. Watch the landscape evolve from rolling green hills to dusty, red sands as you travel north through Alice Springs towards Darwin, enjoying exciting on-land experiences en route. Spend time in the relaxed cities of Adelaide and Darwin at either end of your rail adventure and immerse yourself in Australia's remote bush at Bamurra Plains near Kakadu National Park, where magical wildlife encounters in over 300 square kilometres of beautiful floodplains await.

Day 1 to 3 Accommodation

Adelaide

Arrive in Adelaide and check into the centrally located Mayfair Hotel for a three-night stay. Explore Adelaide's thriving art and food scene and venture out to the Barossa Valley to visit some of its famous vineyards, sample their vintages and enjoy a delicious lunch paired with fine wine during your time here.

Day 4 Accommodation

The Ghan Train

Today, you depart from Adelaide onboard the iconic Ghan train. Settle into your comfortable cabin and gaze at South Australia's rolling countryside through the window before the impressive Flinders Ranges come into view. As day turns to night, it's time to enjoy regionally-inspired cuisine and fine wines before retiring to your comfortable cabin as the world continues to speed by.

Day 5 Accommodation

The Ghan Train

Your journey continues through Australia’s desert landscape to Alice Springs, where a choice of off train excursions reveals the sights and culture of the area. It’s possible to pause your train ride and spend extra time here if you would like to visit one of Australia’s most famous attractions, Uluru.

Day 6 Accommodation

The Ghan Train and Darwin

Continuing to the tropical north, there’s time to explore the pristine wilderness of Katherine, venturing out on an Off Train Experience. Cruise the awe-inspiring Nitmiluk Gorge, learn about indigenous rock paintings and discover more about the culture of the Jawoyn people. As evening falls, Darwin approaches, and you reach the end of your epic Australian train journey.

On arrival into Darwin you will check in to the luxurious Mindil Beach & Casino Resort for a two-night stay.

Day 8 to 11 Accommodation

Bamurra Plains, near Kakadu National Park

A scenic private air transfer takes you to Bamurru Plains, just outside Kakadu National Park. A whole host of exciting bush experiences are included during your stay. Head out on a thrilling airboat ride across the floodplains, search for saltwater crocodiles on a river cruise, or explore the wilderness on an open-top game drive. Travel back to Darwin on day eleven for your international flight home.
