My Luxury Ski Trip to St Moritz

With wonderful wintry conditions, a central lake and charming villages, where better for a luxury ski holiday than Switzerland's stunning St Moritz?

My travels to St Moritz left me in awe of this luxury alpine resort's superb snow cover and undeniable glamour, while the Hotel Giardino Mountain was the ultimate base from which to explore...

Seriously Scenic Skiing

Having skied in several resorts across Europe, I would easily say that St Moritz is one of the prettiest places I've been lucky enough to hit the slopes. It is a little higher up than other resorts but well worth the journey for the snowfall. Visiting in mid-December, I was so impressed at just how amazing the conditions were for this early in the year. As well as incredible and seriously scenic skiing (you can pretty much see the lake from most angles), we also had the option to try out snowshoeing. Honestly, it was so tiring, but great to experience the snowy delights in a different way. The lake also freezes over during the winter and you can ice skate over it - magical!

Our wonderful host at Giardino Mountain Hotel also explained how St Moritz is where, back in 1864, the concept of winter tourism was born following a bet between Johanesse Badrutt - a wealthy hotelier - and his English guests. Fast forward to today, it is still a winter playground for the rich and famous. Even if you're not fond of skiing, there is plenty to keep you busy in the villages, which look like something from a fairy tale story book, lined with luxury shops and world-class restaurants.

Hotel Giardino Mountain

My base while in stunning St Moritz was the Hotel Giardino Mountain, a luxury hideaway around ten minutes out of the resort's centre. However, with luxurious transfers (by Mercedes van or Range Rover) to the ski lift and town centre available, you have everything you need here... and then some! The hotel is located in a building that was once an old girls' boarding school, and I adored the quirky split levels and undeniable charm of each room.
There is just so much to rave about here, including a gorgeous spa that uses exclusive products made from local ingredients, as well as incredible family facilities and a kids' club. The food is also a real highlight, with three restaurants to choose from. This includes Ecco, which combines regional cuisine with the ultimate fine-dining experience - oh, and it's earned two Michelin stars! I enjoyed spellbinding views of the snowy mountains while here, but it's well worth mentioning that Hotel Giardino Mountain is also a great choice for a luxury summer holiday, with activities including e-biking, hiking, windsurfing and more.

Another real highlight of staying here is that guests can enjoy access to the ultra-exclusive El Paradiso mountain club, which is usually reserved for members only! It is such a stunning spot with all-glass walls and a mountainside deck complete with fur throws and an exclusive Champagne bar. I enjoyed an incredible lunch here with views to match, while later in the day, the club turns into an DJ-backed après ski destination to rival La Folie Douce!

Travel is my greatest passion and I love the thrill of jetting off to explore a new destination. I've always been happy to travel independently and have ventured to the Taj Mahal in India, and more recently, the rice paddies of Ubud in Bali.
