Rosewood Little Dix Bay: Our Five Favourite Island Experiences

It's time to head back to the BVI's beloved beach retreat...

Founded by celebrated conservationist Laurance Rockefeller over half a century ago, Rosewood Little Dix Bay has become one of the British Virgin Island's most regarded retreats over the years.
Although having recently been reimagined to introduce exciting new concepts, environmentalists, architects and designers have worked tirelessly to honour the resort's storied past, ensuring the island is still the secluded paradise many discerning travellers have fallen in love with. While the list of inspired amenities is endless, we've rounded up our five favourite experiences not to be missed on this luxury holiday to the British Virgin Islands.

1. Tower Above In A Treehouse Suite

Paying tribute to the original stilt houses erected by Laurance Rockefeller at Little Dix Bay in 1964, the Tree House Suites seemingly float among the island's palm trees, with an early morning bird chorus often providing a welcome wake-up call. Although aesthetically modern, these sumptuous suites have no televisions to take up your time - you're encouraged to unplug from the modern world and unearth natural pleasures, like the bay's uncrowded beach which is only steps away. They do, however, feature outdoor rain showers, wraparound terraces, and shaded garden patios, as well as an attentive butler to figure out the finer details. Travelling with family or a group of friends? Don't worry - the resort's medley of multi-bedroom villas is equally alluring, featuring well-equipped kitchens, private swimming pools and gorgeous gazebos for warm evenings al fresco.

2. Let Little Ones Loose at Rosewood Explorers

With a packed programme of fun-filled frolics and age-appropriate adventures, Little Dix Bay's Rosewood Explorers clubhouse is a wonderland that promises to stimulate little minds' curiosity and creativity, whilst celebrating the delights of Caribbean culture. From landscape painting, music lessons and local storytelling in the morning, to nature walks, shell collecting and sandcastle contests in the afternoon - the fun is non-stop! Throughout the island's naturally beautiful surroundings, you'll find even more experiences designed to encourage pint-sized explorers to discover their sense of adventure and social responsibility too - they can meet-and-greet local lizards, snakes and other wildlife at the property's petting zoo, wade in the warm ocean waters to learn the importance of marine life protection, or cook up a storm using super-fresh ingredients grown at the resort's sustainable farm at a children's culinary class.

3. Explore the Shore with a 'Beach Drop'

Although the resort's pristine, half-mile crescent of sand - nicknamed the "wilderness beach" by the resort's founder - is considered to be one of world's best, gorgeous Virgin Gorda has lots of stunning shorelines to explore. Travel by water taxi to one of seven secluded beaches in the area - some only accessible by sea - to spend few hours exploring a new patch of sand and surf, complete with pre-packed essentials perfectly curated to you and your family. The resort will make sure you have everything you need for a dreamy day on your luxury holiday: an umbrella and towels will be perfectly placed for sunbathing; complimentary snorkelling equipment lets you dive into the underwater world and a gourmet picnic lunch will ensure nobody gets too peckish. If you hang around until dusk moves in, you might just catch some of the island's most mesmerising sunset scenes too, best enjoyed with a beach barbecue and a chilled glass of Champagne.

4. Sip Something Strong in the Rum Room

In a breezy open-air pavilion overlooking the blue hues of the Caribbean Sea, you'll find the Rum Room. Having sourced 107 of the rarest liquors from around the world, bringing in libations from South America, Southeast Asia and everywhere in between, Little Dix Bay's extensive library is enough to tempt any rum buff. Bartenders serve up classic concoctions and new infusions throughout the day, whether you fancy a pre- or post-meal beverage, or want to try out more than one of the time-old tipples at a weekly tasting session. Barrel-aged house blend cocktails include a Chocolate Rum Old Fashioned and the Spanish Town Mojito, whilst there's also plenty of well-known favourites like the Pain Killer and Dark and Stormy - all of which can be savoured to the sound of live local entertainment.

5. Chill Out at the Cliffside Spa

A destination designed in harmony with nature, where better to nourish and nurture your mind, body and soul on a luxury holiday than Rosewood Little Dix Bay? Perched on the cliffside overlooking the Sir Francis Drake Channel, Sense, A Rosewood Spa boasts an impressive two-tier infinity pool and hilltop yoga platform, as well as eight treatment rooms and the calming Cliff Spa Suite for couples. The treatment menu incorporates timeless healing and natural remedies, with age-old compresses, teas, balms and lotions still incorporated into the massages, scrubs and skincare treatments performed in the spa to this day. For tireless travellers, there's also a fully equipped fitness centre - stocked with chilled water, towels and fresh fruit for your post-session pick-me-up - along with a resident personal trainer for those determined to push their body's boundaries.
