Elegant Resorts' Antigua Office

Rosiland Bersma

Rosalind Bersma

Resort Manager, Elegant Resorts’ Antigua office

Rosalind Bersma started working with Elegant Resorts as a representative in Antigua in 2000 and soon saw a steady increase in the number of repeat clients visiting the island. After a short break, she returned in 2006 when she was promoted to Resort Manager. Rosalind professionally represents our clients in Antigua and her solid relationships with industry partners enable her to exceed guests’ expectations.

What benefits does the Elegant Resorts Antigua Office offer clients? With our extensive experience and portfolio of resources, our Antigua Office is able to provide a sense of security and peace of mind to our clients. We work in collaboration with other service companies and industry partners to fulfil the requests of our clients and provide a superior service which we hope will always exceed their expectations. We are on-call 24 hours, every day of the week and quickly, and competently, handle any emergencies that may occur during their stay.

What sort of services can be pre-booked? Well, practically everything can be pre-booked before the client’s arrival, which saves a lot of time and avoids any disappointment; we can acquire tickets to special events, pre-book spa treatments and baby-sitting services, make restaurant reservations (although we do have a restaurant guide for those who’ve never been before and we can always make reservations during the guest’s stay), car hire, golf, horse-back riding, excursions or tours, airport and inter-island transfers with infant seats, car seats and/or booster seats. We find that our VIP Lounge access, for the departing or in transit client, can leave a great lasting impression.

What sort of arrangements can you make? In addition to arranging delivery of a fruit basket, special chocolates or wine to the resort, at the request of the client, we can also arrange a special private vehicle transfer, from the airport to the resort, which is great for honeymooners or those celebrating a special occasion. The return transfer, for up to two passengers, includes fresh fruit and Champagne along with cold towels and bottled water.

We can enhance any celebration such as a birthday, wedding proposal or anniversary, with special arrangements to meet the specific requests of the client; for example, we once arranged for some of our clients staying at Carlisle Bay to enjoy a special five-course dinner with Champagne served on the Jetty by a personal waiter and with the participation of the resort managers’, we have been able to arrange other special location dinners including on the beach and beneath a gazebo.

Other things we can arrange include a tailor-made, private drive around the island with a picnic lunch; a private boat charter that includes the services of a masseuse and day trips to neighbouring islands like Montserrat or Barbuda.

Is there something particularly extra-special that you have arranged for a client? Well, we had one gentleman who wanted to do something special for his wife’s birthday that included seeing the island, so with his consent, we arranged a tailor-made tour of the island with Champagne and chocolate truffles and lunch at one of the island’s restaurants. They were completely enthralled with whole experience and needless to say the wife had one of her best birthday’s ever.

What activities and attractions do you recommend for the first-time visitor to Antigua? There’s so much to see and do on our tiny island that we always recommend guests come back to try what they’ve missed out on the first time round! Just some of the attractions we recommend include: Betty’s Hope Sugar Plantation, established in 1650, long since declined it’s now a lovely open air museum where you can see its unique twin windmills and exhibits from Antigua’s sugar era. Devil’s Bridge, one of Antigua’s most photographed sites, is a naturally formed bridge created by the erosion of the sea, there are several blowholes around the area and it’s a popular local swimming spot; at English Harbour you can visit Nelson’s Dockyard - named after Admiral Lord Nelson who was based at English Harbour from 1784 to 1787 - today private yachts have replaced the Naval vessels and tours can be taken of this historical Georgian style harbour (the only one of its kind in the world) with its magnificent courtyard, restaurants and bars. Above the harbour sits Shirley Heights, once the island’s colonial observation post now home to some of the partially restored fortifications, fabulous views stretching out to Montserrat and Guadaloupe and every Sunday a barbeque with live music (from approximately 3pm to 9pm), great food and plenty of rum punch. Fig (Banana) Tree Drive is a popular activity, admittedly it’s not the most comfy of rides but you do get to see some of Antigua’s spectacular natural scenery, including banana, mango and coconut groves as well as old sugar mills. Helicopter tours allow for a great aerial perspective of Antigua and it’s a quick way to see the island in its entirety. After any excursion we recommend that you travel back to your resort along the scenic coastline, by way of a number of quaint villages.

What activities and experiences do you recommend for repeat visitors to Antigua who may have already visited the main tourist attractions? For guests returning to the island, or indeed those guests looking for something different, we suggest visiting Reservoir Range which is both an entertaining and memorable experience. The thirty acre site is home to an international-standard clay pigeon shooting range as well as hand gun and archery ranges. An experienced team of enthusiastic instructors ensure you get the most out of your day and personalised score cards make great mementos. There’s also picnic areas, fishing and mountain biking to enjoy.
