Elegant Resorts' Mauritius Office

Linda Ramasawmy

Linda Ramasawmy

Resort Manager, Elegant Resorts' Mauritius Office

Permanently based in Mauritius, our representative, Linda Ramasawmy, was born in Mauritius and has always lived on the island. She has been working for Elegant Resorts, helping our clients, for the last fourteen years. The office operates twenty-four hours a day. Linda usually takes a week’s break in July, the low season, and two more weeks in November to spend some quality time with her daughter.

What benefits does the Elegant Resorts Mauritius Office offer clients? We’re here to greet all clients on their arrival and meet them in resort to make sure their holiday is running smoothly and is stress free. I assist all clients, in any way I can, from their arrival to their departure, making sure they experience the Mauritian hospitality with a view to them renewing their experience with Elegant Resorts either back here on Mauritius or at any of the other destinations featured in our portfolio.

What sort of services can be pre-booked? Services such as excursions, spa treatments, golf tees and lessons, restaurant reservations, tennis lessons, babysitting services, car hire, helicopter flights and transfers can all be arranged and I strongly recommend that these be pre-booked, particularly during peak season.

What sort of arrangements can you make? Tailor-made excursions can be arranged to suit clients’ requests for every occasion. There is definitely something to match everyone’s interests and make their holiday dreams come true.

Is there something particularly extra-special that you have arranged for a client? A few years ago, a couple wanted something really special to celebrate their wedding anniversary. They wanted a blessing to renew their vows, so I took them to a local church. Because the Catholic priest was French speaking, I had to do the translation and I also managed to organise a choir to sing for them. It was all very emotional and completely beyond all of our expectations.

What activities and attractions do you recommend for the first-time visitor to Mauritius? There really is something here for everyone, from volcanic eruptions, pristine sand beaches and subtropical forests to historical monuments and cultural attractions. To see the island in all her glory, why not try a helicopter flight - some of the resorts have their own helipads making this a much easier option – it’s a great way to see the amazing natural landscapes, pristine coastline and sugar cane fields. Spend a day at one of the oldest race courses in the Southern hemisphere; the Champs de Mars in Port-Louis runs four classic and four semi-classic races during the racing season which runs from March to the first weekend of December. For those who are more adventurous, an interaction or walk with the big cats is a must do. During this one hour excursion, lions roam freely among you, providing a unique opportunity to see how they interact with each other, climb trees and feed - you may even have the chance to pet them. Another popular excursion is dolphin watching. Best spotted early in the morning or late afternoon, this adventure takes place on a catamaran from where you are practically guaranteed sightings of the resident bottlenose dolphins. Having watched their antics, you’ll enjoy a lovely lunch on-board the catamaran. Mauritius is famous for its deep sea and big game fishing, with a number of big game fishes - including Blue and Black Marlin, Bonito Wahoo, Sailfish, Dorado, and yellow fin tuna – to be found in the deep ocean water and many of our guests have pitted their wits against the Blue marlin's legendary fighting ability. We can also arrange bird watching – did you know that some of the world's rarest birds are endemic to Mauritius? The Mauritius Kestrel, and Pink Pigeon are our greatest conservation success stories – and trekking, being a volcanic island, Mauritius has several breathtaking summits and valleys as well as the Tamarind Waterfalls and several national parks to explore.

What activities and experiences do you recommend for repeat visitors to Mauritius who may have already visited the main tourist attractions? How about a Culinary Workshop, to discover the secrets of our culinary traditions. At Saveurs et Rivages, there are five Mauritian Chefs on hand to teach authentic and speciality cooking techniques with simple recipes anyone can recreate back home. This is a great option for families, as children from as young as 5 years can participate. Educational games like the flavour and smell challenge and vegetable sculpting are part of the experience.
