Highlights
Safari
The Savute is famous for its wealth of prowling predators, including lion, leopard, cheetah, hyaena and wild dog, often spotted on game drives. It also houses some of the rarer antelope species of roan and rock-climbing klipspringer. A true marvel of nature, Africa’s second largest migration of zebra passes through in January and February, which is also a great time for bird-watchers to visit, with 250 species to identify from the checklist.
San Bushmen Rock Paintings and Baobab Forest
Fascinating rock paintings by the San Bushmen can be visited from Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge, thought to have been painted using snake venom, blood and plant juice over 1,500 years ago! A stop is also made at a grove of iconic baobab trees which could well be as old as the rock art.
