Beach Life in St Barths with Elegant Resorts
The meandering coastline of St Barths is laden with beautiful beaches. Some are tiny coves set between jagged rocks – perfect hideaways, while others are spotless strands of gently shelving sands lapped by crystal-clear seas.
Picture a sublime, double curve of pale, powdery sands – a hotspot for the tanned and toned on this mega-star island. Bronzed beauties sashaying up and down the beach clad in Dior and Chanel. Red, white and blue sails in the sea. Welcome to Baie de St Jean, a glamorous French playground in the Caribbean Sea. Bask in the sun, cocktail in hand, catch a fashion show in a beach bar, head for the watersports centre and whizz across the waves, or dance the night away in a trendy beach club.
With far-reaching views of St Kitts, St Eustatius and Saba, the dazzling white sands of Grande Saline and Gouverneur offer picture-postcard backdrops for sunning, swimming and relaxation. Petit Cul-de-Sac, meanwhile, is a small, sheltered cove with a marine park offshore for superb snorkelling. For all sorts of other watersports, the main centres are at Grand Cul-de-Sac and St Jean.
For spectacular sunsets, Grand Colombier or Rockefeller Beach is a remote sweep of sun-bleached sands on the island’s far western tip. If you don’t fancy the trek, you can take a boat from Gustavia.
Lorient, Toiny, Marigot, Corossol, Flamands – the list goes on. And don’t forget Shell Beach, a short stroll from Gustavia and different from the rest. Instead of sand, you’ll find a beach blanketed with piles of orange and pink shells. Quite an extraordinary sight!
