Luxury Holidays At Silky Oaks Lodge

Estimated at 180-million years old, the Daintree Rainforest is regarded as the oldest in the world, and it’s here in Tropical North Queensland where this much-revered rainforest meets the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef. In the midst of this incredible eco-system lies Silky Oaks Lodge, a beautiful retreat which lies gently on the land and offers very real sense of place. Within easy reach are Port Douglas, Cape Tribulation and to the west, the cool plains of the Atherton Tablelands, the frontier that divides the coast from the vast Queensland Outback. 40 luxurious suites wind their way through the rainforest canopy which shimmers with the iridescent blue of the Ulysses butterfly, down to the Mossman River, boasting shady verandas with swaying hammocks and outdoor bathtubs offering sumptuous spaces to relax amongst this ancient landscape. A range of included lodge-based signature experiences have been designed to connect guests with the people and the land on which the lodge sits and includes guided walks, yoga, and river explorations. Dining takes place against the backdrop of the rainforest, showcasing the abundance of fresh produce that this region is famed for and you can expect flashes of indigenous flair too. There’s also an exceptional day spa where guests can allow the wild beauty of the rainforest to sooth the mind, body, and soul.

Climate

Gold Coast experiences a sub-tropical climate During the summer months of December to February is when the Gold Coast experiences most of its annual rainfall. The average temperatures range between 20°C and 28°C. The hot days are often followed by tropical storms at night. This is an ideal time of year to visit the rainforests and mountain creeks that surround the Gold Coast.

Winter on the Gold Coast sees whales visiting the coast line, the cooler days are great days to get out on the water to whale watch. The cooler temperatures mean that there is also less humidity and less rain so it is the perfect time to spend at the beach and surfing.

The autumn days, March to May, are generally sunny and warm followed by equally warm nights and drier than the summer days. The humidity is lower as well. Autumn on the Gold Coast is the perfect time to enjoy sailing and other water sports due to the winds still being strong and tropical storms being less frequent.

Spring is similar to autumn on the Gold Coast; with a rising humidity as September to November roll by with increasing rainfall and temperatures. This is also the windiest part of the year for the Gold Coast so sports such as sailing, wind surfing, kite surfing and kite boarding are perfect to enjoy.
