Culture & History

Set in Bali's cultural heartland, Amandari's emerald-green grounds are sacred to local communities, with religious processions and colourful dancing. Look out for the stone tiger left centuries ago by a Hindu priest, while a short stroll brings you to Ubud village, bulging with galleries, museums, art studios and craft stalls. Longer treks lead to more artisan settlements, selling all manner of handmade keepsakes, and ancient shrines, statues and springs speckle the landscape, interwoven with paths and plunging rock walls. Watch history unfold on a tour of local temples, some dating back to the 8th century, or seek out Ubud's cultural calendar for extravaganzas of music and Balinese dance.

Romance

The location alone is magic enough to make any stay romantic - the sumptuous thatched villas, with their sunken outdoor baths, private walled gardens and constantly amazing views encouraging an even more romantic ambience. Delve deep into this spellbinding region, an adventure to share on foot or even atop an elephant, dine a deux in a rainforest wilderness of swaying coconut palms and terraced paddy fields, in a secluded picnic spot with gourmet hamper, the location skilfully hidden by the natural curving of verdant slopes, or book a private chef for dinner overlooking the gorge, with piles of petals and glowing candles adding to the romantic scene.

Climate

At just 8 degrees south of the Equator, Bali’s climate is tropical, warm and humid all year round, split into a dry and rainy season. Dry season, between April and September, is the best time to visit to make the most of this beautiful island and its treasured landscape. Between October and March is Bali’s rainy season, characterised by heavy downpours, rougher seas, stronger winds and greater humidity. The island’s elevated centre is dominated by volcanoes and mountains, making this area considerably cooler and wetter than it is at the coast.
