City Highlights
Porto is a splendid-looking UNESCO World Heritage Site replete with lots to see and do. Its star is most definitely in the ascendency at the moment and it's becoming more and more popular due to its laid-back nature, which blends cosmopolitan and traditional to thrilling effect. The charming Medieval city, on the banks of the Douro River, has plenty of visual appeal and a trendy, urban ambience, along with an array of bars, restaurants and pavement cafes that will keep everyone fortified during the trip. Arts and culture play a central role in Porto's make-up, leaving visitors with decisions to make on where they want to focus their attention - be it museums, art galleries, historic buildings and no fewer than six bridges spanning the Douro River, including the two-storey Maria Pia Bridge, built by a protege of Eiffel, creator of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
